Changing Tides x 2

After recently adding a new puppy to my collection of schnauzers and posting numerous pictures on line of him. My changing tides blanket by coastal crochet got spotted and requested to be made.

Jumping at the chance to make this beautiful blanket again I reached for my laptop and ordered the yarn. Same colour palette but different shades.

I love how these colours pop on this blanket, I didn’t want to hand it over when it was time too.

It will certainly keep its new owner warm over the coming cold months ahead plus add some much needed beach and sea colours for that vitamin D injection.

Picnic on the Beach Blanket – Week 6

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a lovely long Easter break? Who ate their body weight in chocolate? Or drank way more than they should’ve?

I spent mine decorating, garden tidying and week 6 of my blanket was completed yesterday. Back to work for me tomorrow so I plan to relax and not do much today to mentally prepare ha ha.

This week we added more to the side panels and it was all about the hearts and sunsets. Look at those sunsets I loved making them and they look amazing.

I don’t think there are many weeks left now it’s gone so quickly, but I can’t wait to see what this weeks instalment will be. Roll on Friday.

It’s a short week for most here in the UK this week so enjoy it whatever you’re doing, thanks for reading.

Take Care, Marie x x

Beach Combing Cushion

Remember the blanket I did in lockdown? The Beach Combing Blanket CAL from the amazing Coastal Crochet?

Well I had lots of cotton yarn left so I decided to do a matching cushion to sit alongside the blanket on my bed.

I did a simple C2C backing for the cushion and lined it with a old pillow case then stuffed it with fibre fill.

I decided to add a scalloped edging, regretted it once I started but glad I persevered with it.

I picked my favourite square from the whole blanket and and to juggle the colours around a bit but very happy with the outcome.

Cal Week 10

Beachcombing Blanket CAL

Well this isn’t like me but I’m a bit behind this week, it’s been a bit to warm to work on this beauty this week but managed to get it finished last night. Finished just in time for the penultimate week being released tomorrow. Wow week 11, and what a crazy 11 weeks it has been.

How have you spent your lockdown? Made something you are really proud of? Then please do share.

Week 10 was a fabulous combination of stitches and once these rows were completed all the colours just popped.

I still have quite a bit of yarn left so do we think the final 2 weeks will be rounds? I guess I only have a few hours to find out.

CAL Week 8

Beach Combing Blanket

Good evening everyone, I hope you’ve had a good weekend, It has been very hot and sunny here in the UK and I hope you have made the most of it safely.

Well this weeks rows, inspired by waves, 12 puff stitch waves continuing on the top and bottom edges of the blanket. Sounded a breeze this week, how wrong could I have been.

I could not get my rows to line up, no matter what I did, I frogged so many times and had to turn to the group on Facebook for help. Turns out I was right on the first go, GRRRRRR #annoying #lol.

Not many more weeks to go now cannot believe how quick it has gone to be honest, seems like only a couple of weeks ago that we all started. I cannot wait till it’s all finished now though and it’s in my new home.

Roll on week 9, wishing my life away on a blanket here lol, ahhhhh crochet love.

Thanks for reading, Stay Safe

Be back soon

CAL Week 7

Beach Combing Blanket

Evening everyone, I hope you’re all having a great long holiday weekend so far (UK). Another week is complete and with it a realisation that I made a mistake on week 6 that I am not now rectifying (Shhhh no one can see it or tell so I’ll not mention it anymore).

This week we did the opposite side to Week 6 and 4 rows of the top and bottom, now it’s really starting to look like a blanket. Can’t wait for Friday and week 8, I wonder if we will start working in rounds now???

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, thanks for reading.

Take care & stay safe.

Week 3 – Buoys and Fishing Nets

Hi Everyone, all still sane? Getting into this lockdown situation now?

Well, that is week 3 completed and what a challenge that was. Had a few mental blocks on this one, and a few harsh words muttered but got there in the end, Phew!

Had to do two squares again this week, but this time I did each round together so both worked up at the same time.

This weeks inspiration came from the buoys and fishing nets washed up on our shores and you can really see that come through in the squares. I absolutely loved it this week Coastal Crochet, but I am a little concerned these squares seem larger than the last ones made in week 1 and week 2. I’m sure it will all come together in the end.

So here it is week 3’s instalment, roll on Friday for week 4, can’t wait.

Week 2

Happy Sunday, I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather safely.

So Friday saw the second week released of the CAL I started last week. I was up and out of bed straight away as I had something to get up for, PC on, E-mail opened, Pattern Downloaded, Printing in process. I don’t think my eyes had even opened properly.

A quick read through the pattern revealed “No Crab Stitch” phew, also I need to make two squares this week YAY!

What a great start to this week, ammonite, and as you are working it round then start adding colours you can literally visualise it on the beach.

I won’t bore you anymore and let you look at both my squares, loved this week and cannot wait till Friday. I might do another one alongside it made up of my yarn stash, maybe it will clear out some bit’s and bobs laying around.

Enjoy the rest of your lovely Sunday, Thanks for reading and Take Care.

Week 1

Afternoon everyone, hope you are well and safe? It’s starting to get to everyone now I know it is but hang in there we can do this together.

On the 10th April 2020, amidst this very strange and surreal time, this years CAL started by my favourite designer over at Coastal Crochet. I love her design work and this one looked quite a challenge. Unfortunately I didn’t order my pack in time and had to wait for it so come back in stock but thankfully it arrived on Tuesday.

There are 2 different kits that are available from The Knitting Network, one in cotton and one in acrylic, I decided on the cotton on this time which it the more expensive of the two packs but I have to say I am loving this Scheepjes Catona cotton yarn.

I thought it looked challenging and it certainly was, I didn’t get far till I had to flog a round and start again (the importance of counting hitting me like a slap in the face) I got to the end of round three and thought hang on a minute that’s not right? I had to many stitches, in my defence it was my first ever time doing popcorn stitch and clearly got carried away with it.

More popcorn stitches in round four and I suddenly realised that I was finishing them wrongly, DOH! the eagle eyed ones among you will see the difference between round two and four, I was not flogging it all again, no thanks.

I gained more stitches as the rounds went on and I kept flogging, swearing, re doing, flogging, swearing a little more then sod it I will lose them in the next round which I did.

CRAB STITCH – my new hate stitch, wow, took me an hour to do this round of crab stitch and I seriously do hate it. This stitch goes against everything you have been taught as you have to DC backwards and my fingers and brain just could not get around it at all. As feared there was more crab stitch at the end of week one. I used a larger hook this time and it was a lot easier to control the cotton yarn from splitting so the final round wasn’t so bad.

The dreaded crab stitch (white circle)

And that’s it, Week 1 complete and I’m ready for Week 2 being released tomorrow morning, no more crab stitches please Eleonora (false hope on my part there)

What do you think? great start to a new emerging blanket, challenging but going to be worth it I’m sure.

Take Care everyone
